Siyanda Maphumulo the 8th SATMA award finalist on the best indigenous comedian category; is a young renowned stand-up comedian based in Durban. His passion for arts, especially comedy started in high school as he was telling jokes as a hobby to his peers back in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal; this later on grew to a career 2009 when he was in tertiary. Siyanda is now one of the regulars in the well known comedy show 99% Zulu Comedy. The ever so witty Siyanda is currently co-writing a sitcom based on brotherhood of homeless people. His genuine humour is based on ridiculous observation of life as publically reviewed and described by Duma ka Ndlovu who is the director of Muvhango. Even though to some Siyanda is seen as a ground breaker but his unique intellectual comedy has earned him prominence in the South African stand-up comedy scene. He was recently seen on Idols 2014 doing “imoto’entshontshimali”. He performs both in IsiZulu and English. He performs in corporate events, weddings and other private ceremonies and also does program directing.
